City Planning Needs Community Organizers
Why I’m running for Greensboro city council
As a dedicated leader, parent, educator, organizer, and small business owner, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside many of you—on porches, in churches, at meetings, and throughout our community.
For 15 years, I’ve been advocating for change and collaborating with people to create real solutions. I’m committed to putting people first and know what it takes to bring us together. My leadership track record speaks for itself—I’ve turned grassroots efforts into tangible results. With my experience and commitment, I’ll be an accountable, accessible council member dedicated to our community’s well-being.
Having studied Greensboro’s history, I’m ready to lead us into the next generation. Together, we can create the change we want to see in our city.
Working Toward Shared Understanding
Our platform is informed by recommendations of state and local elected officials, city and county administrative leaders, community leaders and neighbors. Collaboration and consistent communication across systems is necessary to be effective. We serve the same populations; we should also be sharing data, and strategies.
Everyone is needed.
Equity woven throughout our plans and strategy.
Evidence and expertise is mandatory to move forward.
Ease to do business, engage and participate civically.
PLATFORM
Economic Development Needs Equity Driven Growth
Greensboro is growing and our future is shaped by a diverse population. Research shows that diverse, equitable regions and businesses perform better, thereby affirming that Equity Benefits Everyone. According to the Piedmont Equitable Growth Profile, Greensboro’s GDP could increase by $9.5 billion by addressing racial inequities. Inequity Costs Too Much. Our city must be equity driven and ensure everyone, especially marginalized groups, can participate in the economy and prosper.
Greensboro is important and will play a key role in fostering this inclusive growth. We are positioned to be greater. To unlock this potential, we must leverage Greensboro’s strengths especially our transportation Infrastructure, invest in small businesses and support our working families—as key drivers of economic development.
Community Safety & Engagement
Community safety is achieved when people have improved quality of life.
Everyone deserves to feel safe. The safest communities are those with ample resources and support. To improve safety, we need to prioritize proven strategies that prevent crime, such as making housing more affordable, supporting mental health and addiction recovery, ensuring quality education, and creating jobs. Arresting people won’t solve homelessness, addiction, or poverty. Instead, we need to address the root causes of these issues.
Education is a City Council Responsibility
Every child deserves access to a safe, equitable education—it’s a civil right. The $2 billion school bond approved by Guilford County residents reflects our shared commitment to education and investing in schools. Good schools strengthen neighborhoods by boosting stability, property values, and business growth. They also create local employment opportunities and attract companies, which consider school quality when choosing locations. Investing in education is an investment in the city’s economic future.
Housing is a Human Right
There will be no quick fixes to the current housing crisis. We need policies that promote fair housing and support economically diverse, inclusive neighborhoods. There is an urgency to build affordable and mixed income housing, increase tenant protections, increase permanent supportive housing options (other than the Servant House) and acquire more data to create collaborative strategies and policies that promote fair housing and support economically diverse, inclusive neighborhoods. These platform positions on housing were informed by the work of local nonprofit coalitions and social justice organizations who focus on housing solutions in Guilford County.
